No Order Magazine talks with the artist.
I am Tim Meakins, an artist and designer based in Perth (Boorloo), Western Australia. I have been practicing as an artist for the last five years and also work as a freelance graphic designer. My work merges elements of graphic design with visual investigations into human connection and physicality, often pushing the boundaries of how the body is imagined, stretched, and reshaped.
How did your career begin?
I studied graphic design for four years and worked in studios and agencies after completing my studies. During that time, I started doing simple drawings, which gradually developed into a style that continues to define my work today. Encouraged by local artists, I began experimenting with physical mediums and testing new ideas. While I was familiar with creating work digitally, I began to explore painting. Initially, I had no specific reason for making art—it was simply fun and exciting. My career truly took shape in 2019 when I gained a clearer understanding of the direction I wanted to pursue, and I’ve been creating work ever since.
What are some of the biggest influences on your art and practice?
Video games and cartoons have been my biggest influences since a young age. What started as a love for video games grew into a healthy obsession, sparking my interest in worldbuilding. I was captivated by the characters, the worlds they inhabited, and the choices and consequences within those spaces. I’ve always been inspired by how video games and cartoons break the rules, creating worlds and characters that aren’t confined by reality. That same sense of boundless creativity is something I strive to bring into my own work.
